From a long time ago there lived a flying fish in these places.

And the word of mouth was going around the whole Russia about that fish. But that fish was tricky and didn't come to the usual baits or to the nets. It was told to bring happiness and wealth to those who catch it.

And the most risky fishers decided to settle in these places. They were looking for the right place for a long time. And soon at the high bank of Volozhka river the fishers village stood up.

So what would be it's name? There were many quarrels about it and then the wisest and the oldest said: «There are only karshis around here!» (note of translator: karshi are the trunks that have sunk during the spring flood.) And they gave it name of «Karshevitoe»

Then the fishers called up the masters all over the world and they made the houses out of the wooden logs with little windows in them.

So the time was passing and they lived there and they had enough fish to eat and to sell.

And they became richer and richer. And they built a sauna on the bank and got some cattle for fun and the dogs for security.

And they started inviting guests from all over who also wanted to try their chance! And their wives were making food for the guests and the fishers were taking the gustests to different secret places on Volozhka river and were teaching them different fishers tricks so that they could try to catch a flying fish!

Many of the braves were trying to catch this fish! And the Tzar also heard about it and he issued the Defending Law to protect the fish!

And the Tzar wrote that fishers could fish around per the law: they could fish bream, carp, zander, pike, perch, asp and Volga herring. And if someone meets burbot or sheatfish one can catch it as well.

And when Astrahan region AND Volgograd Region started to divide it happened that the boarder went through Volozhka river. Thus the fishers now cross the river on ice in winter and go from one region to another. What was good that the governors were peaceful people and didn’t quarrel about the fish. On the opposite they issued the order to protect Volga-Akhtuba water meadow so that no one would damage the nature and beauty there. All kinds of fishing were permitted but the order was to get rid of all nets and seines.

Well, when scientists were making maps the plotted Karshevitoe belonging both to Volgograd and Astrahan regions while in fact it is the same village.

And these places became known to the whole country for their peace, beauty and generosity.

If you ask an expert: where should you go fishing, they’d answer: «Go to Karshevitoe near Volgagrad.»

So since that times fishers do come to those place to get magic flying fish. They come from all over by motor boats and cutters. And for ones who like sleeping a lot –they can fish from the bank: they fish by fishing rods: the usual ones and weighted lines.

The fishers caught a lot of fish but who knows if they got the flying one!?!
